Installing Setup Packages (Administrator)

Use

Once you have created a setup package, you can install it on the mobile device. If you are installing on a laptop, you can also run an automatic installation instead of a manual one.

If the setup package is not personalized, and is meant for multiple devices, you can create a user with a temporary password at the end of the installation.

Prerequisites

?      You have a setup package for the installation.

?      You have administrator authorization for the mobile device.

?      The following are installed on the mobile device:

0       For Win32 systems: JDK 1.3.* or JDK 1.4.*.

0       For Windows Mobile systems: Java Virtual Machine CrEme

setup.cab Installation on a PDA (Windows Mobile)

...

       1.      Provide the setup package by including the corresponding data carrier or navigating to the relevant network directory.

       2.      Start the installation by double clicking the file setup.cab.

The client and other applications and data are installed on the mobile device.

       3.      Restart the mobile device.

setup.zip Installation on a Laptop

...

       1.      Provide the setup package by including the corresponding data carrier or navigating to the relevant network directory.

       2.      Extract the file setup.zip into a newly created directory, for example, C:\MI. For your installation directory, select a directory with as short a name as possible. A name that is too long could cause the installation to fail.

       3.      Start the installation by double clicking the file setup.exe. You can find the file in the newly created directory under \Client\setup. For example, under C:\MI\Client\setup.

Alternatively, you can execute the installation using the command line. Open the entry prompt and navigate to the directory with the file setup.exe. Enter the following:

start /w <installation file> /s /v"/qn /L <log file with path> REBOOTSUPPRESS=ON"

start /w setup.exe /s /v"/qn /L C:\MI\mi.log REBOOTSUPPRESS=ON"

Parameters

Purpose

/w <Installation file>

Start the specified installation file. The system waits until the process has finished.

/s

Start the process without any interaction from the user (silent installation).

/v"<parameter> <parameter>"

Transfer additional parameters:

/qn – do not display user interface.

/L <log file with path> - installation log

REBOOTSUPPRESS=ON – Suppress post-installation restart.

The client and other applications and data are installed on the mobile device.

       4.      Restart the mobile device.

The installation program has installed the client and created an entry to start SAP MI on the mobile device.

Creating User with Temporary Password

If the setup package is not personalized, and is meant for multiple users, create a user for the future user of the mobile device.

...

       1.      Start SAP MI on the mobile device.

       2.      Create the user with a temporary password (for example, INITIAL).

Passing the Mobile Device on to the User

Give the mobile device to the user, along with the temporary password for the initial logon (for example, INITIAL) and the number of synchronizations that need to be performed.

The number of synchronizations required depends upon the type of setup package:

?      If the setup package is user-specific and contains data, the user must synchronize once only.

?      If the setup package is user-specific and does not contain data, the user must synchronize twice.

The data is downloaded with the second synchronization.

?      If the setup packages are not personalized, the user must synchronize twice.

With the first synchronization, the device gets a device ID, and the application is assigned to the user. The application is already contained in the setup package and does not have to be downloaded again. To access the application, the user must restart the device (Windows Mobile) or SAP MI (Win 32). During the second synchronization, the client downloads the data.
