To allow you more control over the delete phase of your archiving sessions, you can schedule delete programs outside of Archive Administration. This is useful if, for example, you do not want to schedule delete jobs using Archive Administration or you want to limit the number of delete jobs scheduled simultaneously.
There are two methods for automating the delete phase. You can directly schedule the delete program or you can schedule the RSARCHD program that in turn schedules the delete program.
Figure 1: Direct Scheduling Versus Indirect Scheduling Using RSARCHD
If you want to directly schedule the delete program, you have determined the name of the delete program for the relevant archiving object usingtransaction AOBJ.
Directly Scheduling Delete Jobs
The delete program is executed for the archive file with the lowest key that has the status Write Completed from the archiving session with the lowest number.
Indirectly Scheduling Delete Jobs (RSARCHD Program)
The delete program is executed for one or more archive files with the lowest keys that have the status Write Completed from the archiving sessions with the lowest numbers.
To schedule the RSARCHD program, use the SAP job scheduler (transaction SM36) or an external job scheduler.
