Components

Definition

Components are elements of the Internet Graphics Service (IGS) architecture used for generating graphics or processing data.

Use

Components receive data from their interpreters and process the data, for example to generate a graphic.

Components are currently available for the following:

  • Charts
  • Geographical Information Systems (there is currently a BW-specific GIS solution)
  • Converting raster graphics from one format to another

Other types of component can be integrated into the IGS in the future.

Integration

It is important that components are as platform-independent as possible.

Components can be developed internally or bought from external suppliers and integrated into the IGS. It should be as simple as possible to incorporate new components without changing listeners or multiplexer. However, it is unavoidable that the portwatchers will have to be changed.
