Most screens of transactions ST04, DB02 and DB12 display the current connection information in the upper part of their windows. This area will be referred as the connection subscreen throughout this section. The following shows the fields of the connection subscreen. In these fields you can see information about the current connection.
Connected to: ® <Target SQL Server> ® <Target database> ® <Object source schema>
At the right, it contains the button Change connection data, which you can use to display, change or set the connection to access remote SQL Servers. If you select this button, the screen Maintain and set monitor multi-connect data appears. The following sections provides information on the functions of this screen.
Maintain and set monitor multi-connect data Screen
The screen displays the buttons Apply to local session and Test settings, and the following sections:
· Connection settings
· Active destination
· Status of active connection
· Active error message.
Allows you to specify the names of the RFC connection and the secondary database connection. Note that as soon as you specify an RFC target, the database connection name refers to a connection defined in the RFC target system and not to the connection defined in the local system.
If you choose Test setting the remote connection will be tested. If you choose Apply to local session it will switch the connection to the remote system.
Displays the characteristics of the current remote (or local) database connection:
· Database Server:
SQL Server name, which can be a Windows host name or, in the case of a named instance, the hostname, followed by a \ (backslash), followed by the instance name, for example: SERVER\PRD.
· Database Name: Target database name.
· Database User:
For traditional connections to SAP databases, this is the schema name the system is installed in (typically symbolized as <sapsid>). For remote database monitors, it should always be dbo.
· Object Source:
Displays the name of the database schema, which contains the objects used by the SAP database monitor transactions. These objects (stored procedures, user defined functions and tables) implement the low-level database monitor functions.
Status of active (remote) connection
· Status of RFC connection:
A green icon means that the RFC connection is working properly. The fields to the right contain the release information and the basis support package level of the target SAP system. In case of a local connection, the icon is gray and the fields are empty. Problems are symbolized by a yellow or red icon.
· Status of secondary database connection:
The field to the right of the status icon displays the version of the remote SQL Server.
· SysAdmin fixed server role in target database:
The icon turns green when the Database login, under which the connection is made, has SQL Server System Administrator privileges, that is the SQL Server login is member of the sysadmin fixed server role on the target SQL Server.
· Availability of monitor objects in target schema:
The icon turns green when the necessary SAP T-SQL objects and scripts necessary for remote database monitoring exist on the remote SQL Server system.
If the icon turns red, you need to create the necessary SAP T-SQL objects according to Creating SAP T-SQL Objects.
Active error message:
Displays the message the system returned when the current remote connection was initialized. If the connection failed, this message will help you to troubleshoot the problem.
If you want to use the connection to the target system automatically every time you call a database monitor transaction, you can save your connection settings permanently, as follows:
1. In the screen Maintain and set monitor multi-connect data, enter values for RFC destination and DB connection according to your scenario.
2. Choose Connection ® Save conn. setting ® Save as user parameters.
Alternatively press F9.
The connection settings will be saved as parameters in your user profile.
To check, choose System ® User profile ® Own data and choose the parameters tab. The parameters MSS and MSS_CON_NAME are created in this step.
3. If you later want to reset the connection settings, choose Change connection data on the connection subscreen. On the next screen Maintain and set monitor multi-connect data, choose Connection ® Save conn. setting ® Reset user parameters.
