System Measurement

Purpose

With the measurement program (transaction USMM), you determine the number of users and the chargeable objects of the Engines of the SAP software for each system. The measurement program contains counting modules to automatically determine the Engines used (generic SAP, SAP New Dimension, and SAP IS Add-On products). The measurement program is used exclusively to determine the number of users and the utilized units of SAP products.

As of SAP R/3 4.6B, the system measurement of the users is performed in dialog. The measurement of the SAP Engines runs in the background. The measurement program automatically detects the Engines used in the system, measures them in the background, and lists them in the measurement log. Programs for measuring Engines are either delivered with the product or are also available for lower releases through Support Packages. For information about the currently available programs for measuring Engines and other information about the measurement program, see the SAP Service Marketplace.

You must only use the tools provided by SAP, in their original state, for measurement. You should transfer the result of the measurement to SAP immediately and in an unchanged format.

Integration

With system measurement, you determine the number of users and the chargeable objects of the Engines of the SAP software. Then consolidate the results of the system measurements in the License Administration Workbench to ultimately transfer the consolidated measurement result to SAP.

Central maintenance of the license data in the context of central user maintenance is supported as of SAP NetWeaver ‘04 (by Support Package, as of SAP Web Application Server 6.20, see SAP Note 704412).

Scope of Application

This document is based on the revised and extended functions of the measurement program of SAP NetWeaver ‚04. Individual functions are also available for lower releases through Support Packages (see SAP Note 428479).
