Security of the Communications Channels

The following table displays the communication paths used by SAP MI, the log used for the connection, and the type of data transferred.

Communication Path

Communication Path

Log Used

Type of Data Transferred

Data Requiring Particular Protection

From the SAP MI Client Component to the SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP and vice versa

Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) or Secure Hypertext Transmission Protocol (HTTPS)

Application data, control data for SAP Mobile Infrastructure, synchronization password

Synchronization Password

The synchronization password is copied from the mobile device to the SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP with each HTTP request. We, therefore, recommend using SSL or HTTPS (see Configuration of Security Functions (Optional))

From SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP to back-end system and vice versa

Remote Function Call (RFC), see Creating RFC Destinations Pointing to the Back End
