Assigning an Application Library

Use

You assign an application library to a client application in order to access the functions and data of a server application with the help of the methods contained in it. The scope of functionality of the client application is extended by the assignment to include the functions made available by the application library.

The following information refers to the assignment of an application library to the client application Web Survey.

Prerequisites

At least one application library is registered in the current system. For more information about registering an application library, see Registering an Application Library.

Procedure

You can assign an application library (or several) to a survey or to a questionnaire in the Web Survey. Surveys and questionnaires are objects independent of each other so that an independent assignment of application libraries is also possible. The enhancements of the features differ depending on whether you assign an application library to a survey or a questionnaire. Which additional functions are used complies with the internal program logic of the Web Survey (as client application).

Assigning an Application Library to a Survey

  1. Enter the transaction code SURVEY to start the Survey Cockpit.

    The Overview of Surveys screen appears.

  2. Open the survey that you want to assign the application library to by double-clicking on the appropriate list entry.

    The Change Survey: <Name of Survey> screen appears.

  3. Choose Extras ® Load Application Library.

    The system displays a list with the application libraries available in the system.

  4. Set the indicator active for every application library that you want to assign to the survey and confirm your selection.

Assigning an Application Library to a Questionnaire

  1. Enter the transaction code SURVEY_FORMS to start editing the questionnaire.

    The system displays a list with the questionnaires available in the system.

  2. Open the questionnaire that you want to assign the application library to by double-clicking on the appropriate list entry.

    You get to the Change Questionnaire: <Name of Questionnaire> screen.

  3. Choose Extras ® Load Application Library.

    The system shows a list with the application libraries available in the system.

  4. Set the indicator active for every application library that you want to assign to the questionnaire and confirm your selection.

Result

You have the following possibilities after the assignment of an application library (provided that the application library implements appropriate methods):

  • You can generate the target group hierarchy of a survey with the help of the application library (Extras ® Target Group Hierarchy ® Import from Application).
  • You can automatically fill the value lists for input fields of a questionnaire.
  • You can assign suitable functions of the application library to events that occur when filling in a questionnaire, for example, for validating or updating the entered data.
