Making Settings for the Add-On Installation Tool

Use

You can make settings for the Add-On Installation Tool, which influence the actions when you download or import installation packages.

You have to define the settings only once. These are stored for future calls of the Add-On Installation Tool. Note that these settings are also valid for the Support Package Manager.

One exception is the setting for the import mode downtime-minimized. This does not automatically apply for the Support Package Manager.

Procedure

On the initial screen of the Add-On Installation Tool, choose Extras ® Settings. A dialog box appears in which you can make or check the following settings:

Tab: Load Packages

·        Application Server Directory

You can check in which directory on the application server the OCS packages are located.

·        Load CAR/SAR Archives from Front End

...

Ў        Display contents before decompressing

You can decide whether to display a dialog box with the contents of the CAR/SAR archive before you decompress it. This is the default setting.

Ў        Delete archive after decompressing

You can choose whether you want to delete the CAR/SAR archive, which was transferred to the application server, after decompressing it. This is the default setting.

Ў        Back up previous upload directory

You can decide whether to save the last used upload directory of your front-end host. This directory then appears as the start directory in the dialog box where you select an archive next time. This is the default setting.

You can enter your own choice of upload directory in the Upload directory field. This upload directory then appears as the start directory in the dialog box where you select an archive.

Tab: Define Queue

·        Including Modification Adjustment Transports

You can specify whether you want the system to always check the queue definition for modification adjustment transports that are to be included.

Ў        Include adjustment transports

For the queue definition, the dialog step for including adjustment transports is always performed.

Ў        Do not include adjustment transports

No adjustment transports are included in the installation queue. The corresponding dialog step is skipped.

Ў        Always ask

After the queue definition, the system asks you whether to include adjustment transports or not. You can then decide whether the dialog step for including adjustment transports is to be performed or not.

Tab: Import Queue

·        Import Mode: Downtime-Minimized

You can define whether the installation is performed in the import mode downtime-minimized, thus reducing downtime. The default setting is for this option to be deactivated. The packages are installed using the conventional import method.

To find the most suitable import mode for your system, check the prerequisites under Import Mode: Downtime-Minimized.

·        Parallel Import

You can set the maximum number of parallel processes that can run in the system at one time.

Note that these options only affect add-on installation and add-on upgrade packages that actually permit parallel importing, that is, packages that have been prepared accordingly. For further details about a specific add-on installation, see the relevant installation or upgrade note.

Ў        Max. number of parallel R3trans processes

You can specify the maximum number of parallel process with which the transport program can import R3trans data into the database at one time. For computers with 512 MB (or more) main memory, we recommend setting this value to 3.

Ў        Max. number of parallel background processes

You can specify the maximum number of parallel background processes for executing the after-import method. We recommend setting this value to 1. If you have enough space in your main memory, you can set it to 3.

·        Create new data file

You can determine whether you want the data files to be unpacked from the EPS parcels each time you import Support Packages. This is the default setting.

If you use a multiple system landscape with a common transport directory, it is best to only activate this option in the first system into which you import packages, and to deactivate it in the following systems. This saves time because the data files do not need to be created again in these systems.

·        Delete data file after import

You can decide whether you want the data files to be deleted after importing the packages. This saves hard disk space and is the default setting.

If you use a multiple system landscape with a common transport directory, it is best to deactivate this option, since then you do not need to create new data files in the other systems (see the previous above).

·        Create Object Versions During Import (does not apply to PCS)

You can choose to create versions of the objects in the OCS packages in the installation queue when they are imported. This option is deactivated by default, since it is a good idea only if version creation is active for all imports. This can take a long time and use up a lot of space in the database.

Note that if version creation is activated in the configuration of the transport profile in the Transport Management System, the VERS_AT_IMP parameter must be set as ALWAYS.

·        ABAP/Screen Generation

Select this option if you want the programs and screens delivered in the OCS Packages to be generated when they are imported.

Ў        Never

If you use this option, the programs and screens are generated only when they are called for the first time.

Ў        Always

If you use this option, the programs and screens are always generated. Note that the generation can take a long time and may cause errors.

Ў        According to SAP instructions

If you use this option, the programs and screens are generated if the option of generating during import has been activated by SAP.
