The following types of SAP System exist.
PROD: Production system
A system in which the real-life business processes of a company are mapped and in which real-time data is recorded.
DEVELOP: Development system
A system in which in-house developments and Customizing settings are made.
TEST: Test system
A system that is used for prototyping and testing system settings and processes.
TRAIN: Training system
A system that is used to teach system settings and processes.
A system that is used exclusively for the SAP International Demonstration and Education System. IDES uses a model company to describe common business process and explain how they are mapped in the SAP System.
DEMO: Demonstration system
A system that is used exclusively for internal employee training or presentations for interested parties.
A separate backup system for a (live) system.
Backup systems were used previously to maphigh-availability configurations. Since December 1999, high availability configurations can be mapped correctly by requesting several license keys for one system. See also note 181543.
