Appointment Display in SAP Applications

Purpose

The framework for appointment display makes it easier for developers to use calendar controls in their applications. Calendar controls facilitate uniform appointment display across applications in the SAP System. It is of no significance whether the appointments displayed are managed by Business Appointment Services or by the application itself. Whereas the meaning and handling of the appointments are left up to the applications, the selection and formatting of the appointments are carried out by the framework.

On the one hand, the use of the framework reduces the workload for application developers for the display of appointments, and on the other hand, the uniform appointment display in different applications reduces the amount end users have to learn.

Features

The appointment display makes the following areas available:

  • Navigation area (data for several months)
  • Appointment overview (choice of daily, weekly or monthly view)
  • Task list

You can integrate the different areas, either individually or together, in your application. You can display the selected areas either alongside your application areas or as a full screen.

The framework is responsible for the display of appointments, including the selection of colors and icons. This guarantees that the appointment types (for example, periodic appointments or group appointments) are displayed the same in different applications. See the appointment display in the SAP appointment calendar (transaction SSC1) as an example.

The appointments for all applications that use the appointment display are visible in the appointment calendars of users or business objects. Appointments linked to an object can also be displayed. These links are, however, application-specific and, therefore, only the appointments that were linked to the object by the current application are displayed.

In the course of a customer project, internal appointments and reconciliation appointments take place. The customer participates in the reconciliation appointments, but not in the internal appointments. Since the internal appointments also relate to the customer, a link is created between the customer (that is, the business partner) and the internal appointments. The appointments in which the customer participates are displayed in the customer's appointment calendar. These include the reconciliation appointments and also appointments from other applications, but not the internal appointments. All the appointments that affect the customer (therefore, also the internal appointments) are displayed in the application itself.

Events are handled internally as far as possible. If required, an internal event can also be transferred to the application. For more information, see Events.
